Do You Need Bridal Shower Games or Not?

Do you need these free bridal shower games?

I have a confession to make: I really don’t like bridal shower games. I know, crazy, right? Well here’s the thing, I just think some can be so cheesy and a bit awkward.

Chances are, you might not know everyone at your (or your friend/family member’s) shower so guessing what someone’s favorite color is seems a little weird.  I’m just not that into them.

However, I do think there are a few games that DO have their place and that’s why I’m sharing them. I’ve also included why you need them, or why you should skip them. Just because they’re here doesn’t mean every single one is for every single person.

1. Favorite Memory of the Bride

All you need to play this one is pen and paper. Simply have guest share their favorite memory of the bride.

Why you need it: It’s the perfect way to share embarrassing or heartfelt memories of the bride, plus she’ll keep it forever. Now, you might want to skip this one if people don’t know the bride that well and can’t come up with a memory.

2. What’s in your phone

This game is super easy one, as you just need guests to pull out their phone.

Why you need it: An alternative to the what’s in your purse game, this one is more updated and perfect for the “techie” couple. Plus, everyone (probably) will have a phone. The only real reason to skip this one is if you have a room full of people without a phone. Or if you’re wanting to have an “unplugged” shower.

3. Find the Guest

This one does force some mingling, so if you’re worried people might not enjoy that, then skip it.

Why you need it: It will help the guests at the shower get to know each other. Makes a great ice breaker before the drinks set in too. 🙂

4. Bride or Groom

Why you need it: This game brings in the groom too. It’s perfect for the couple’s shower, or ask the groom ahead of time the questions. If you don’t have time to get the questions to the groom beforehand, skip this one.

5. Advice for the Bride-to-Be

Advice cards are one that I do like for bridal and baby showers, as well as graduation parties.

Why you need it: The bride will love it and cherish it forever.  It’s a reminder of the great shower you gave her!

However, my mom tends to struggle to come up with things to write, if you think you’ll have people like her, either skip it, or mail out the cards with the invites and let guests have time to write the message without a lot of people around. Simply request that they bring them to the shower.

6. How Well Do You Know the Bride

This is definitely a classic game and it’s one you can take it or leave it.

Why you need it: This is a perfect way to find out how everyone knows the bride-to-be. It’s a good icebreaker and to find out how the bride knows other people as well.

If you already know each other pretty well, then skip this one.

7. Guess the Bride’s Age

This is a great way to display photos of the bride-to-be at the shower and can be done without “stopping” the actual party. You can simply have this sitting out and have people put their guess. For instance, at my sister’s sip and see baby shower, I had a chalkboard with photos of mom and dad as babies and people voted on who they thought baby Lily looked like.

You can certainly do the same thing with this game. Have this game printed large, and let guests write how old the bride is in the photos. No need to give each guest a card to fill out. Make sense?

Why you need it: Put photos around of the bride-to-be from various ages and have the guests guess her age, it’s the perfect way to show all those embarrassing photos of the bride (or the cute ones).

Skip this one if getting photos of the bride at different ages is too much work.

8. Date Night Ideas

I really like this idea of having guest share date night ideas. However, it’s possible the people will struggle to come up with ideas. Therefore, you can also put these in with the invites and let guests have a little more time to think about their ideas.

Why you need it: This game gives the bride and groom ideas for date nights. They’ll cherish the kind words and keep them for years to come.  Plus, they will think of the awesome bridal shower they had each time they need a new idea.

9. Recipe Cards

This is another one of those you can mail out ahead of time. In fact, I highly recommend it. Most people don’t have recipes memorized.

Why you need it: Give the bride (or the groom) ideas on what to cook. This is another one of those keep forever games and they’ll think of you when cooking some delicious meals.

If your bride or groom to be hates to cook (guilty) then definitely skip this one. It would have been quite hilarious if people tried to give me recipes at my shower. I hate to cook.

However, I do love the idea of a “recipe” shower for those who do love to cook. It’s a great non-traditional bridal shower idea.

10. Bridal Bingo

Bridal bingo works like this: have guests fill in the blanks with what they think the bride to be will receive. Then as she opens, they mark off the Hones they get right.

Why you need it: Look, it’s fun to open presents when you’re the one doing the opening, but let’s be honest, it’s not as fun to watch. Or is that just me? This game gives the guests a way to participate in the gift opening.  Skip this if people would rather just watch the bride or if you’re afraid of a few cheaters.
